Down on the Farm

pedrohorses.jpg

Who?  Bob  Where?  In many nations, Pedro is at that age when he is starting retirement and wondering what happened to his waistline!  But Pedro has better things to do, in this case prepping horses for a couple crazy gringos out to see the farm on Lake Bayano in eastern Panama.

The King of Panama

jeffpeacock.jpg

Who? Jeff Lane  Where? Other nations have their kings and Presidents, we have ours.  And isn’t he regal?  This peacock’s castle is the La Playita resort near Pedasí in Los Santos province on the Azuero peninsula of central Panama.

Family contentment on another beautiful day

motherandson.jpg

Who?  Antonio Mojica  Where? For generations, many Panamanians have raised cattle, both for meat and for milk.  This mother and child, the very picture of contentment, live on a dairy farm in eastern Panama province on the shores of Lake Bayano.

Panama has more stars than Hollywood

jeff-bocasstarfish.jpg

Who?  Jeff Lane  Where?  Relative to other seas and oceans, the Caribbean is well-loved for its clear waters and interesting marine life.  This is an excellent example of both from Bocas del Toro in the far north-west of Panama.  The photo was not taken underwater, but taken above.  Despite having to photograph through water, the little local residents are clearly there to be seen and enjoyed.

A new friend

jeffandparrotsm.jpg

Who? Jeff Lane  Where?  In Bocas del Toro in the far northwest corner of Panama, an RW member makes friends with one of Panama’s most popular residents.  Although not all of Panama’s wildlife is quite so tame as this new friend, they are a joy to meet, even if only as an “acquaintance” from a distance.

A frog that a princess could love

jeff-redfrog.jpg

Photographer: Jeff Lane  Where?  Panama has frogs, but don’t jump to conclusions.  Frogs up north may not be thought of as pretty, but our frogs come in many colors and they are as pretty as a frog can get!  These little fellows live in Bocas del Toro, an island region in the far northwest of Panama.

Dealing effectively with life’s little problems

sloth.jpg

Photographer: Sharon Where? Some of us find the world to be a little overwhelming sometimes. When faced with this, what better solution than taking a nap? Our sloth friend here needs little encouragement. And where does he hang out? No, not in the jungle, but on Ancon Hill in Panama City.

Here’s looking at you!

siegcattle.JPG

Photographer: Sieg Pedde Where? Chiriqui province in the far west of Panama is our equivalent of America’s Texas. It’s in the west, local folks are extremely proud of their province, and there are plenty of cattle. This fellow is very typical. Most Panamanian cattle are hybrids, but you can see the influence of the Brahma family in this gentleman.

From import to local production to export

fishfarming.jpg

Photographer: John Moses M. Where? You might be surprised to know that salmon is a popular fish in Panama. Of course, our native varieties, especially corvina, are the most common, but salmon has its place in the market too. We even have a local producer of a variety of smoked salmon specialties whose products are also exported. Where do the salmon come from? From fish farms like the one above in Cocle province in central Panama.

A delicate glimmer of beauty

shevlin-butterfly.jpg

Photographer: Pat Shevlin Where? It’s not just our birds that are beautifully colored, our butterflies (mariposas in Spanish) are every bit as beautiful. Extraordinarily delicate, they bring joy to our hearts every time they are seen…and they are seen continuously, everywhere in Panama.
